The Long Range Desert Group 1940-1945: Providence Their Guide by David Lloyd Owen,
In a campaign known for many special warfare units, the Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) became one of the greatest legends of the North African Campaign in World War II. Equipped with specially modified light trucks, the British, New Zealand, and Rhodesian troops of the LRDG roamed far behind German lines on a variety of dangerous missions. Although they sometimes engaged in combat directly, many LRDG missions were reconnaissance or guiding other special units, such as the Special Air Service, across the desert. By war's end LRDG operations had shifted to Italy and the Mediterranean, and the unit had played a prime role in establishing Britain's reputation for special forces operations. This classic insider's account has been updated and supplemented with rare photographs from the LRDG collection in the Imperial War Museum.
